How To Create A Fnaf Animatronic

Jeremy enjoys gaming when not helping manage the college he graduated from.

What Is Five Nights at Freddy's?

Five Nights at Freddy's is an indie horror video game crafted by Scott Cawthon and originally released in 2014. Since the original title, we've seen more than five sequels, each expanding upon the story and building on the basic concept: survive several night shifts at haunted pizzerias.

After all, what's creepier than guarding an empty building at night? Guarding a building that isn't empty at night; FNaF challenges you to stave off various animatronics (similar to the real-life Chuck E. Cheese robots you may remember) by carefully managing your building's limited power supply. If you fail, you'll be treated to a game over alongside a freaky jump scare courtesy of one of the deformed animatronics. But with dozens of possessed costumes running amok, which ones terrified us the most? These are the ten scariest animatronics in the FNaF franchise! Spoilers ahead.

Golden Freddy

Golden Freddy

10. Golden Freddy

First Appearance: FNaF

Summary

Freddy Fazbear, upon which the series and pizzeria are both named, receives several terrifying upgrades throughout the games. In the original title, fulfilling the right conditions accesses a sixth night where Golden Freddy can emerge. Even without the jagged teeth and exposed mechanical insides of other animatronics, Golden Freddy manages to frighten us with both his creepy appearance and imposing threat: unlike other animatronics, he can move through closed doors. Not only that, he doesn't just give game overs, but can actually crash your entire game (purposefully), adding insult to injury.

How to Beat Him

Golden Freddy spawns after randomly seeing the poster in the West Hall Corner's camera switch to its Golden Freddy appearance. You can't stop him with doors, but if you're fast, pulling up the monitor the instant you see him enter your room will prevent a fight and cause him to leave. Alternatively, you could simply avoid ever checking the West Hall Corner, but this will make it difficult to monitor Bonnie's progress towards you.

9. Ennard

First Appearance: Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location (FNaF 5)

Summary

Ennard's chilling exoskeleton was pieced together from the bodies of the four main animatronics (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy). As if that weren't creepy enough, it has a clown mask and the highest number of different jump scares animations in the series to date (four). Some of these involve a maskless Ennard, but even taking away the clown face, it's still a daunting foe likely to make you jump.

How to Beat It

Quickly follow Baby's instructions and don't make any mistakes when typing her commands to avoid Ennard's assault. Still, one of the scariest things about it is it kills you in the "real ending" of Sister Location and steals your body, plotting to assimilate into human society. You can avoid this by playing well and getting the "fake ending", but based on their names, we can easily tell which is canon.

Nightmare Mangle

Nightmare Mangle

8. Nightmare Mangle

First Appearance: FNaF 4

Summary

Normal Mangle is creepy enough, but when you dismantle its body, revealing its cold metallic frame, and toss on extra arms, legs, and heads, you've got more than enough nightmare fuel to last you for the week. Mangle's got several interesting theories revolving around it, like whether it's the reanimated soul of a dog and a surprisingly widespread controversy over what gender it is.

How to Beat It

Introduced in a Halloween update, Nightmare Mangle behaves like its counterpart Nightmare Foxy. It'll first appear on the second night and attempt to enter the bedroom from either hallway. If it succeeds, it'll then move to the closet. From there, you need to regularly check on Nightmare Mangle to prevent it from attacking you; unfortunately, you're also dealing with the other animatronics. Even worse, while Mangle's in the closet, static music will drown out many of your crucial audio cues, so do your best to keep it in the hallways.

Ballora

Ballora

7. Ballora

First Appearance: Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location

Summary

Ballora's the most humanoid of all the animatronics, lending her an eerie resemblance to us. However, underneath her ballerina getup, she's packing the same terrifying mechanical innards of the nightmare series, and watching her face split apart to reveal her mechanical body remains one of my favorite jump scares. She'll also sing at points, ominously reminding you that you're not alone.

How to Beat Her

Ballora's only active during night two, and luckily her eyes are completely shut, so she'll hunt you by sound as you navigate to the breaker room. Move quietly and pay attention to the volume of her music to determine how close to you she is.

6. Nightmarionne

First Appearance: FNaF Ultimate Custom Night

Summary

Also called Nightmarionnette or Nightmare Puppet, Nightmarionne is a reskin of Nightmare unveiled with the Halloween download patch, simply allowing you to switch things up a bit. That doesn't mean he's not terrifying. From his Slenderman-like body to his haunting laugh and colorless form, this puppet offers one of the game's oddest and eeriest designs yet.

Read More From Levelskip

How to Beat It

Following the same attack pattern as Nightmare, Nightmarionne can attack from either hallway, the bedroom, or the closet. Thankfully, no other animatronics will stalk you on the nights you face Nightmarionne, but to compensate, he's very aggressive and can assault you from many locations. Make sure to play with stereo speakers or headphones to listen for audio clues about which direction Nightmarionne moves in, letting you know which areas to check next.

Nightmare Freddy

Nightmare Freddy

5. Nightmare Freddy

First Appearance: FNaF 4

Summary

Adding fangs, claws, a tattered body, and three miniature "Freddles", Nightmare Freddy showcases one of the scariest Freddys yet. As if he weren't bad enough on his own, the three Freddles can detach and move independently; in fact, Nightmare Freddy attacks only after you fail to shine your flashlight on the Freddles atop your bed, temporarily scattering them and buying you time. What's really scary is how these horrific bears only appear in one location, implying Nightmare Freddy is under your bed the entire time. Thanks for those terrifying origins, Scott. Sweet dreams everyone!

How to Beat It

Nightmare Freddy works very differently from other animatronics, reminiscent of the Puppet and the music box from FNaF 2. You know where to check for the Freddles (your bed); you just can't let all three gather or Freddy will attack. Thus, as long as you're diligent and don't forget to occasionally disperse the Freddles in-between your other tasks, you shouldn't encounter too much difficulty with Nightmare Freddy.

4. Circus Baby

First Appearance: Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location

Summary

The star of the trailer for Sister Location left a haunting impact with her repeated phrase of "don't hold it against us." Circus Baby, often abbreviated as simply Baby, bears a feminine clown exterior, which is freaky enough in itself. But things go from bad to worse when she starts talking and her face separates to show her monstrous innards.

How to Beat Her

Despite playing a big role in the game's story, Baby never actually pursues you. Enjoy your freebie! Many believe Baby has William Afton's daughter's soul trapped inside her. William Afton being the serial child murderer, often referred to as Purple Guy. Looks like even his own daughter couldn't escape his vicious crimes, adding another victim to the growing number of deaths he's responsible for.

Bidybaps

Bidybaps

3. Bidybap

First Appearance: Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location

Summary

Usually we think of big as scary, but sometimes smaller threats are more frightening since they can hide just about anywhere. Enter Bidybap, a bald demonic-looking baby-like animatronic whose humanoid but distorted face will keep you up late at night. Oh, and there's at least two (as seen in-game), but could be as much as seven, the number that appears in their trailer reveal.

How to Beat Them

Thankfully, Bidybap appears fairly early in the game and isn't too hard to stop. During night two, simply follow instructions by first hiding under the table, then holding the door closed to prevent Bidybap from killing you with a freakish face-split jump scare.

Springtrap

Springtrap

2. Springtrap

First Appearance: FNaF 3

Summary

FNaF 2 was a prequel to the original (by most timelines, at least), but FNaF 3 took place after, offering us a sequel and a glimpse at the fate of several characters. In this game, your silent night guard protagonist is haunted by several visions of past animatronics, each of which can disable security systems and hinder your defense, but only one can actually move in for the kill: Springtrap, constructed from the remnants of an old Bonnie suit. If you're not already intimidated by Springtrap's fierce form, consider this: unlike most animatronics (which are possessed by murdered children), Springtrap bears the soul of William Afton, the child killer who set the events of the series into motion. A robotic monster carrying the soul of a human monster.

How to Beat Him

Springtrap is your primary threat in FNaF 3, and can head to your office from several locations, including the vent. Luckily, you can seal the vents, and you may also divert his route by playing sounds in rooms close to his location. Thus, Springtrap isn't too hard to combat on his own, but be careful not to let the phantom animatronics impede your senses or you'll have trouble tracking and deflecting Springtrap.

Nightmare

Nightmare

1. Nightmare

First Appearance: FNaF 4

Summary

Take the already-terrifying Nightmare Fredbear, and give him a black makeover to construct Nightmare, the ultimate boss of FNaF 4. With his glowing red eyes and many layers of razor-sharp teeth, this thing is bigger and badder than any animatronic yet. He's also very powerful, aggressive enough that he'll attack alone, not needing companions to assault the poor kid in FNaF 4.

How to Beat Him

He's relentless, but like Nightmarionne, at least he attacks solo. Nightmare can come from either hallway, and if you hear him laugh, you need to check the bed (in which case you can stave him off by shining the flashlight) or the closet (which you need to quickly shut). Again, facing Nightmare is much easier when you're using stereo or headsets to help keep track of his movements and counter accordingly. Sadly, no matter what you do, your poor protagonist will die in the game's ending, shedding some light on the origins of the infamous Bite of '83 (or '87, fans still debate which instance this was).

Future of Five Nights at Freddy's

Thanks to its unique antagonists and copious jump scares, FNaF quickly gained notoriety upon release. In addition to its video game sequels, FNaF has also seen three novels and a supposed film adaptation in the works, revealing fans are as eager as ever to be scared by over-sized plush toys.

It won't be easy to top the horrifying monsters we've already encountered, but time will tell if future mechanical demons can soil our garments all over again (FNaF 6 supposedly ended the series, but we've heard that one before). For now, as we await news of potential FNaF sequels, vote for your scariest animatronic and I'll see you at our next horror countdown!

Nightmare Mangle is my favorite but Nightmarrionne is THE scariest in my opinion. I don't know why but I just get freaked out whenever I see it. Like I said, I don't know why. It creeps whenever I see it.

I do think Ennard is the scariest animatronic from this list, but Bidybap is quite scary as well. It is a shame you weren't around to see Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted though, Jeremy. I think the Malhare is quite a night terror! And Dreadbear too. Thank you

I think it would be scarier for ennard/burnt spaghetti to jumpscare me without his mask on. But personally, I don't really find any of them scary. But if I had to choose on the scary, I'd probably choose Nightmarionne, Nightmare freddy, Nightmare, and or Nightmare mangle. Anyways, sorry this comment was so long XD
